Welcome to the 3rd Post in the series of Data Visualization, one of the most loved/followed topics of India — IPL (Indian Premier League) (Part 2) 2008–2020.

In Part1 we did an analysis based on the Teams, here we will be doing analysis based on all other fields and try to cover some very interesting and unique analyses.

Let’s Begin by Checking Data in these columns...

Let’s begin with some visualization and finding the top 10 players, by analyzing the No. of MoM(Man of the Match) awards achieved.

MoM Awards
MoM Awards

The above graph shows the top 10 players of IPL with the most number of Man of the Match Awards… and guess what… it's none other than our Mr. 360 (ABD) with 23 awards followed by The Universe Boss (Gayle 333) 22 awards, roHIT MAN of India with 18, Warner and Captain Cool (MSD) with 17 each.

Just a random thought of checking the MoMs based on the toss decision has made me analyze and see who plays best while chasing VS setting up the targets. Let's have a look at this chart without wasting any time.

Top 10 MoM based on Toss
Top 10 MoM based on Toss

A very interesting graph indeed…
We can see The Universe Boss(Gayle) leads with 19 awards when the team decides to field first, whereas Gambhir has better MoMs(9) when the team bats first. Whereas surprisingly there is balance in MoMs for Captain Cool(MSD) and Raina.

Let's have a look at the top 10 batsmen in IPL till now…

Top 10 Players with highest runs
Top 10 Players with highest runs

Undoubtedly this chart had to be led by King Kohli with more than 6000+ runs till now followed by Raina, Warner, Dhawan and Rohit. An amazing graph… Out of the top 5, 4 are Indian players and among them, 3 are the top-order batsman for Indian Team.

Moving on to the next visual… With these huge individual scores, let's see Who owns the record for most boundaries…

Top 10 players VS boundaries
Top 10 players VS boundaries

Guess what… if you are talking about over the rope(6's) it has to be the one and only one The Boss... Chris Gayle... He loves sending the ball in stands...
When it comes to 4’s, the area is ruled by our very own Gabbar… Shikhar Dhawan…

Let’s have a look at the bowlers now…

Bowlers with most wickets
Bowlers with most wickets

In the above graph, I have filtered the top 10 bowlers with the most No. of wickets.

This chart had to be led by Sir Malinga only an amazing bowler who never misses his Yorkers and chance to take a wicket. And an amazing thing to see, he is followed by 7 Indian and 2 Caribbean players…

Also, a point to note is that out of these 10, 6 are spinners.

Another important factor in bowling is the Dot balls apart from the wickets... A combination of these is required for creating pressure on the opposition.

Bowlers with max. dot balls
Bowlers with max. dot balls

The Turbanator(Harbhajan Singh), one of the most experienced players is definitely the right person to lead this chart... No doubt why he owns the title “Turbanator” one of the most troubling bowlers for the opposition with most dots and 5th top wicket-taker.

He is followed by another Indian spinner R. Ashwin, who can trouble the best batting line-ups in the world. Out of these 10, 7 are Indian bowlers... An amazing ratio.

Let’s see which is the worst over for a bowler to bowl.. i.e. The most expensive overs of the IPL.

Most Expensive Overs
Most Expensive Overs

As expected, it has to be the death overs.. but it is not the 19th and 20th over… but the top 4 overs in this category are from 15–18 with 17th being the most expensive.

This clearly states that the batsman starts to accelerate from the 15th over and try to catch hold of the match from there on…

We have seen the Top 5 most expensive overs in each innings, now let's have a look at the top 10 Most Expensive bowlers till now in the IPL.

Most Expensive bowler
Most Expensive bowler

If we have a close look at the above graph we can notice the list of bowlers here is similar to the list of bowlers in the above 2 graphs(Max. wickets and Most dot balls). Clearly, we can say every good thing comes with a price.
Only a bowler who is not afraid of being hit for a boundary can only take wickets.

As we have analyzed the Top 5 most expensive overs in an inning let’s have a look at the players who have made the most expensive.

Players with Most runs in the Most expensive overs
Players with the Most runs in the Most expensive overs

The above graph shows the top 10 batsmen who have hit the most runs in the most expensive overs of the inning.

Certainly, it had to be none other than our very own Captain Cool, when it comes to the death overs and “Finishing the match off in Style”. He leads the category with a difference of 500+ runs in death overs.
He is followed by Mr. 360, Pollard, Hitman and King Kohli in this category.

Batsman who got out most of the times
The batsman who got out most of the times

In the above graph, we can see the Top players who got out most No. of times based on the way they got out.

S. Dhawan was the one who got bowled for a maximum no. of times followed by Kohli. Whereas Dhoni(who is considered to be the fastest between the wickets) has the highest no. of run-outs followed by Rohit Sharma.
Raina has the highest no. of stumped and caught and bowled records. Whereas Uthappa has the record for getting caught out.
Dhawan and Warner are the only ones who got out by retired hurt and Hit wicket respectively.
